ESPA Deltas extended collaboration with Bangladesh Government

The University of Southampton and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) have been awarded £150,000 (April 2017 to March 2018) by the ESPA research programme to further the impact of the ESPA Deltas Project. This project they will demonstrate the application of the Delta Dynamic Integrated Emulator Model (ΔDIEM) to selected proposed projects within the Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100 (BDP2100) (http://www.bangladeshdeltaplan2100.org/). The General Economic Division (GED) of the Planning Commission of the Government of Bangladesh who lead the BDP2100 are key partners in this effort. The Kick-Off Workshop took place at the University of Southampton on 15/16 May 2017 including representatives from BUET and GED and observers from the ESPA Directorate and DfID. A work programme has been agreed, including definition of the projects to assess, model set-up and implementation and the preparation of a final report. Three workshops are planned in Bangladesh and there will be an extensive training effort.

- Prof Munsur Rahman, Prof Anisul Haque & Md. Rashedul Islam from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology
- Prof Robert Nicholls, Dr Craig Hutton, Dr Attila Lazar & Dr Alex Chapman, University of Southampton
- Representatives of the ESPA funding programme and DFID also joined the meeting.
